WhatsApp is multiplatform mobile phone messaging app which uses mobile phone’s internet connection to send messages, media and documents to other user’s phone. At first, WhatsApp was only available for mobile phones, and then WhatsApp web was launched and now WhatsApp for Mac OS X.
There is not much difference between WhatApp for web and WhatsApp for Mac, the difference is WhatsApp for web is runs on browser and WhatsApp for Mac comes as an OS X application. The other difference I found was you have to scan QR code once while setting up in WhatsApp in Mac OS X, while in web you might have to scan again when you open it in browser.
WhatsApp is available for Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, OS X 10.10 Yosemite and OS X10.9 Mavericks. So lets see how to download and install WhatsApp in Mac OS X.
How to download & install WhatsApp in Mac OS X
- Download WhatsApp for Mac OS X
Go to official download page of WhatsApp, and click on “Download for Mac OS X” button.

Once the download is complete, you can fiind “WhatsApp.zip” in your “Downloads” folder. Double click on this file to extract “WhatsApp.app”.

Drag “WhatsApp.app” file into “Applications” folder. To launch WhatsApp in your Mac, press “F4” and click on WhatsApp icon. You might get some warning similar to what is shown in the image below, ignore them and open WhatsApp.

Now take your mobile phone, open WhatsAppp, and go to “WhatsApp web”, and there use your camera to scan the QR code from your Mac’s WhatsApp.
